The painter Wassily Kandinsky saw himself as a pioneer of a new spirituality. “Concerning the Spiritual in Art”, 1911 (Василий Кандинский, “О духовном в искусстве”), he practically took leave of this world. Art turned away from the objective, it became empty and abstract: a visual meditation on color values and forms.
